Is it possible to carry food on a plane?

There are two major considerations:

Most importantly, applesauce is considered a liquid by the TSA.

Apple sauce in containers 3.4 ounces or less is permitted in carry-on luggage, according to the TSA. Include them in your quart-sized liquids bag. However, this regulation does not apply if you are carrying a baby.

Apple sauce: allowed in carry-on at airport security checkpoints?

Applesauce may be brought through airport security as long as it is contained in containers that are no larger than 3.4 fluid ounces unless the passenger is traveling with a child under the age of two. You can also bring spice and raw food items on a plane.

According to the "3-1-1 liquids rule" established by the Transportation Security Administration, all gels and liquids brought on board must be contained in containers that are no more than 100 milliliters (3.4 ounces) in volume and must be able to fit into a single plastic bag measuring one quart in size.

The only circumstance in which this is not the case is if you are traveling with a child who is extremely young (defined by the TSA as a child who receives assistance in walking from an adult).

If you are carrying more than 3.4 ounces of applesauce into the airport with you, you are not required to place more than a quart of it in a plastic bag or report it to airport security. Many flights also alow them to carry mushrooms on planes and safe travel. The transportation of applesauce in carry-on luggage is forbidden and will result in further screening by the TSA.
